The Jesuit Commons is a new enterprise, staffed almost entirely by volunteers who are convinced that the global Jesuit network is an unparalleled resource with near limitless potential, and that emerging internet technologies will help the network to pursue the "magis."
The Association of Jesuit Colleges and UniversitiesAJCU was the lead partner in launching the Commons, as faculty and administrators from Jesuit universities sought to use online technology to exchange learning and ideas with those in Jesuit institutions serving the world's poorest communities. This impulse toward closer networking has been actively supported by senior JesuitsJesuit Commons Leadership in Rome and elsewhere who joined our board. And the Jesuits' recent global General Congregation emphasized greater networking among Jesuits and their colleagues around the world.
Inspired by this encouragement and support, the Commons commenced activities in mid-2009 by embarking on two key initiatives: an effort to offer online higher education in refugee camps in Malawi, Kenya, and elsewhere; and, this website tool which invites you to collaborate in existing efforts and initiate your own.
